Caracas, August 6: Venezuela's government said today it had arrested six terrorists and hired killers over an alleged assassination attempt on President Nicolas Maduro using explosive-laden drones. Interior and Justice Minister Nestor Reverol announced the arrests on state television and said several vehicles have been seized and hotel raids carried out in Caracas where important information was collected.

President Maduro survived an apparent assassination attempt Saturday after several drones armed with explosives flew toward him during a speech at a military parade.

Live footage of the event showed him suddenly looking up startled mid-speech, while beside him his wife, Cilia Flores, winces after a loud bang.

Dozens of soldiers have also seen scattering during the event to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the Venezuelan National Guard in the capital of Caracas.

Accusing Colombia behind this, in an interview, President Maduro on the incident said, “There was an attempt to assassinate me. I have no doubt that all this points to the extreme right in Venezuela in alliance with the right in Colombia. And that (Colombian President) Juan Manuel Santos is behind this.”

On the other side the Colombian government has denied any kind of involvement in this incident. But no evidences have been given in opposition to Maduro’s accusations.
