Seoul, November 10: From Saturday South Korean Navy will hold a joint exercise with three U.S. aircraft carriers. The exercise will be held hold off the east coast of the Korean Peninsula. The rare tri-career military drill will be held for the first time since 2007.
“The USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), USS Nimitz (CVN 68), and USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) strike groups will commence a three-carrier strike force exercise in the western Pacific, Nov. 11-14,” the US 7th Fleet announced. On Friday South Korean military announced the same. From the South Korean side, seven South Korean warships, including two Aegis vessels will participate.
The US 7th Fleet said the three carrier strike groups "will conduct coordinated operations in international waters in order to demonstrate the U.S. Navy's unique capability to operate multiple carrier strike groups as a coordinated strike force effort."
Amid North Korea tension and Donald Trump's US tour, the exercise is being seen as a major show of force. As per Japanese media report, ships and aircraft of the Japan Self-Defense Forces may join the exercise and the preparation is underway.
