New committee constituted to monitor solutions to air pollution

New Delhi, November 9: The recent crisis in Delhi NCR regarding air pollution has triggered an alarming situation which demands a solid solution. Government is also handling the situation with high importance. Hence in response to pollution threat, a Seven-member committee headed by Environment Secretary has been constituted. The committee will monitor meet at regular, short intervals to draw up a plan and ensure enforcement.

Environment Ministry held a meeting in New Delhi to discuss the situation arising out of Air Pollution. Several other critical issues were deliberated, to discuss and review the situation. Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change held a meeting with Central Pollution Control Board and Environment Pollution (Prevention & Control) Authority to assess the current situation of air quality and work out the future course of action.

Important decisions of the meeting:

The respective State Governments will be requested to fully implement the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) including control of the road and construction dust, garbage burning, control of power plants and industrial emissions, entry of vehicles and several other related factors.

Along with that, it was decided that closure of brick kilns, hot mix plants, stone crushers, intensification of public transport, the sprinkling of water and mechanized sweeping of roads, ban on construction, ban on the use of pet coke and furnace oil should be fully implemented.
