Amravati, February 1: In a smart move to enable people to travel in a smart way, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu launched smart cycles to cover the distance in the secretariat area. The Chief Minister formally launched the smart cycles by peddling from block II to block I of the Secretariat.

What is interesting about these cycles is that these ultra-modern 3 gear cycles are bought from Germany at a cost of Rs 1 lakh each and will be available for free in the secretariat area. A total of 30 smart cycles are put for use in the secretariat premises. In the secretariat area, as many as three pickup and drop stations are setup with 10 cycles each.

Just like other travelling transport, these smart cycles require a registration for smart card in spite of being available for free of cost. These smart cards are required for proper functioning of the traveling system.

Apart from availing smart cycles to the people, CM Naidu also suggested to euip the pickup and drop stations with air conditioners, solar panels and seating arrangements. He also recommended mounting green and beautiful parks near the stations.

There are discussions summing up around the possibility of setting up a manufacturing unit for smart cycles in Andhra Pradesh.
