New Delhi, February 8: Electricity brings a smile on the face of millions as it helps them to study, to earn, to work etc. Therefore, Government of India till now electrified nearly 78.24% households across the country.
Notably, that out of the total 18.10 crore rural households in the country, around 14.16 crore households (78.24%) have been electrified. The status of the electrified rural houses in the States is updated by the respective State DISCOMs on the Saubhagya web-portal.
Importantly, the central government had launched Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana – “Saubhagya” in September 2017 with an outlay of Rs. 16,320 crores including a Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) of Rs. 12,320 crores. The objective of the scheme is to provide last mile connectivity and electricity connections to all households in rural and urban areas across the country.
On the other side, with an aim to electrify the villages of India, Government of India till now brightened 99.8% of census villages till date and only 0.2% percent villages are remained to be electrified. Out of 5,97,464 census villages, a total of 5,96,434 villages have been electrified so far under DeenDayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY).
Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Nagaland, West Bengal and Sikkim are the states where 100% villages are electrified till date and rest will be brightened soon.
