New Delhi, April 4: After inaugurating the newly constructed Western Court Annexe building for transit accommodation of Parliamentarians, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that it is only their government which has honored India's principal architect of the Constitution Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi asserted that the Union Government is walking on the path shown by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. At the core of Ambedkar's ideals is harmony and togetherness, he said.

The Prime Minister also said his government had given Ambedkar his rightful place by completing projects conceived in his memory. He added that working for the poorest of the poor is the Government’s mission.

The 26, Alipur Road house where Ambedkar died would be dedicated to the nation on April 13 on the eve of his birth anniversary, PM Modi said.

Lamenting that everyone had dragged Ambedkar’s name for political gains, PM Modi said it was his government that completed the Ambedkar international centre though the idea was conceived when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was prime minister.

The previous UPA government had dragged its feet on the project for years, he said.

Earlier, the Prime Minister appreciated the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Sumitra Mahajan, for her efforts in the completion of this project. He added that Mahajan always has the well-being of the MPs in mind. He said that her compassion is reflected in the attention to detail that has been given in this project.

The PM said, “When MPs are newly elected, they have to stay in hotels and this makes headlines. However, what we often miss is that previous occupants overstay beyond the designated time, which is incorrect.”
