Beijing, June 12: Indian movies have always garnered much attention and appreciation when it hails some social message with it. China has appreciated and welcomed new ideas and stories from Indian movies which have given a great movie market for India. Compelling to the ongoing praises for Indian cinema, Toilet-Ek Prem Katha starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar has garnered much attention complying with the story and social message.
Toilet- Ek Prem Katha is a story of an Indian couple who find against all odds to curb the age-old customs and traditions of the Indian family. The Chinese population has appreciated the cinema and the netizens are pouring words of applause and praises. One comment on Douban that has garnered more than 600 likes said, “India is becoming stronger as individualism and feminism are awakenings in their country, while we're still having to deal with classes that teach traditional feminine values!"
Another comment said, "Thank you Indians for producing such a good film! It is always difficult to challenge traditional culture - just imagine how many Chinese women and their husbands would be willing to stand up to the stupid tradition that forbids women from eating dinner at the same table as their family in some of China's rural areas? People would just say 'no fussing, it's just a tradition!'" commented netizen That Year's Amber River.
Expressing their surprise to see how difficult it is for rural Indian women to have an indoor toilet, some Chinese moviegoers discussed the hygiene issues they face in their own cities. "I saw Toilet-Ek Prem Katha on Saturday and you know what came to my mind first? There are still Chinese males defecating in the open even when there are plenty of public toilets around - I've seen it more than once on my way to work, which is totally outrageous," wrote one netizen.
Films like Dangal and Hindi Medium has worked well in China and now Toilet- Ek Prem Katha has grabbed the attention of the Chinese population.
Creating a whopping box office collection in India, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which opened in the China box office on Friday, is a ‘much larger’ release than previous releases Hindi Medium and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The movie is set to release at almost 11,500 screens in China.
Tarun Adarsh last week had posted a poster picture of the film that was set to release in China. He shared a fresh poster of the film featuring both Bhumi and Akshay. He also wrote, “And here’s the new poster of #ToiletEkPremKatha for the local Chinese audiences... #TEPK”
