Honest Journalism strengthens the country and it's democracy, opines Rajnath Singh

New Delhi, January 5: “Honest Journalism gives strength to the country and strengthens democracy. Journalism should be seen and based on the principles of absoluteness and unbiased truth. If these principles are followed by the associated persons, Journalism will definitely be known for it’s excellence, I believe.”, said Union Minister Rajnath Singh, at the 13th Ramnath Goenka Excellency in Journalism Awards in the national capital.
 
The awards were presented to 29 journalist in 18 categories across print, broadcast and digital for outstanding work done in year 2017. Delivering the key note address at the event, Home Minister said that “Dealing with social media is a big challenge as there have been trends of fake and coloured news. The journalists shall not mix the ideologies with news."
 
 
He also congratulated the awardees tweeting, "Congratulations to all print and broadcast journalists who received Ramnath Goenka Awards today for their outstanding work. I wish them success in their future endeavours."
 
 
The Ramnath Goenka awards are the most reputed awards for media persons in India. The awards felicitate 29 winners in 18 categories across print, broadcast and purely-digital for outstanding work in the field. The Express Group instituted the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards in 2005 as part of the centenary year celebrations of its founder, Ramnath Goenka.
 
The awards aim to celebrate excellence in journalism, recognise courage and commitment and showcase the outstanding contributions of journalists from across the country.
 
 
Namrata Biji Ahuja of the Week, Amit Kumar Singh and Sandhya Ravishankar of the Wire, Sandeep Ashok Acharya and Nishant Dattaram Sarwankar of Loksatta, Vijay Kumar S of the Hindu, Pratima Mishra of ABP News were some of the Indian awardees. However, Annie Gowen of the Washington Post was awarded for her report on the life of a teenaged pellet victim, a cricketer, in Kashmir.
