New Delhi, Jan 7: Women and Child Development Minister, Maneka Gandhi, in the presence of Dr. Virendra Kumar, Minister of state, MWCD presented National Anganwadi Awards to 97 Anganwadi workers for their unparalleled achievements for the year 2017-18.
National Anganwadi awards are conferred for exemplary contribution to society in fighting malnutrition and creating a healthy nation. Anganwadi workers across India have played a principal role in the effective implementation of ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme) of Ministry of WCD. The aim of awards is motivating Anganwadi workers and recognizes their voluntary service.
On this occasion, Maneka Gandhi said during expressing concern over resources provided to Anganwadi not reaching to children, “Resources worth of crores of rupees have been wasted in past which could have been utilized to support various child nutrition related schemes.”
She called upon Anganwadi workers to be vigilant and report such malpractices.
The Government of India formulated a scheme for awarding Anganwadi workers (AWWs) at national levels in the year 2000-2001.
The annual awards are presented on two levels. From this year, the cash prize of the national level has been increased from 25,000 rupees to 50,000 rupees. State level award comprises of a cash prize of 10,000 rupees.
