New Delhi, September 11: Prime Minister Modi, talking at the 'Young India New India' event marking 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda's Chigaco address, said that India can be VishwaGuru if we remember Swamiji's words 'Follow the Rule, India will Rule'.

While addressing students' convention, Recalling Swami Vivekananda’s speech in Chicago, PM Modi remarked, “Just with a few words, a youngster from India won over the world and showed the world the power of oneness.” He added that a lot could be learnt from Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts.

The Prime Minister said that Swami Vivekananda was in search of the truth more than being in search of a guru. Vivekananda had said that only rituals will not connect an individual to divinity, but by serving people. Vivekananda did not form a 'Vivekananda mission', he formed the Ramakrishna Mission," he said, adding that Vivekananda taught America love.

“Before 2001, the world did not know the importance of 9/11.” He said had India not forgotten its own 9/11, the 2001 catastrophe could have been avoided.

"Swami Vivekananda raised his voice against the social evils that has entered our society," he said. Modi said that Vivekananda showed the power of oneness with just a few words.

The Prime Minister specially mentioned all those people who are working tirelessly to keep India clean, noting that they were the ones who had most imbibed the spirit of Vande Mataram. Student organisations, while campaigning for university elections should give more importance to cleanliness, the Prime Minister said.

The correspondence between Swami Vivekananda and Jamsetji Tata will show the concern Swami ji had towards India's self-reliance, the Prime Minister said. Both knowledge and skills are equally important, the PM added.

The Prime Minister said, that people now say that the 21st century is Asia’s century. But long ago, Swami Vivekananda had given the concept of 'One Asia,' and said that the solutions to the world's problems will come from Asia.

There is no better place for creativity and innovation than university campuses, the Prime Minister said, adding that campuses should organize days to celebrate the culture and language of various States, to strengthen the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.”

Earlier, in a series of tweets, the Prime Minister said, the convention of students is being held to mark the historic address of Swami Vivekananda delivered at Chicago in 1893. Modi said, this year, the country is marking 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago address and Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya centenary celebrations.

The Prime Minister said, Swami Vivekananda strongly believed in the power of Yuva Shakti and saw a vital place for youngsters in the realm of nation building. Modi said, inspired by the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, the government is working tirelessly towards realising the dreams and aspirations of the youth of the country.
