Calamities affected states to be given financial assistance of Rs 6000 Cr

New Delhi, February 27: Aiming to provide financial assistance to the states affected by natural calamities, the Centre has approved the monetary assistance of Rs 5,981 crore to nine states which were badly hit by flood last year. The discussion panel was headed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh during the meeting of High Level Committee (HCL) to decide on the grant.

 
Under the meeting conducted, HLC has approved assistance of Rs 1711.66 crore in respect to the state of Bihar, Rs 1055.05 crore for Gujarat, Rs 169.63 crore for Kerala, Rs 420.57 crore for Rajasthan and Rs 133.05 crore for Tamil Nadu. For Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Chhattishgarh, the committee gave its approval of Rs 420.69 crore, Rs 838.85 crore and Rs 395.91 crore, respectively.

It also gave an assistance of Rs 836.09 crore to Madhya Pradesh. Except Kerala, Chhatishgarh and Madhya Pradesh all states were badly affected by floods in 2017. The southern state was given grant in respect to Cyclone Ockhi. Madhya Pradesh and Chhatishgarh were affected by Kharif drought.

The meeting was attended by various ministers from home minister, finance minister and also NITI Aayog team. Last year the states had undergone severe problems due to floods and also the farmers had to work on the loss.
