Guwahati, March 29: Safety and security of women and children have been of prime importance for everyone in the state. Ensuring the safety and implication of strict law for the people committing crime, Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal chaired a law and order meeting directing the Superintendents of Police (SPs) of all districts through video conferencing at his conference hall at Janata Bhawan.

In the meeting, CM Sonowal directed all SPs to ensure swift and correct filing of chargesheets in all crimes against women and children so that justice can be given to the victims. No criminal should be able to get away taking advantage of the loopholes in law and that must be ensured by filing an accurate charge-sheet, he said.

He also directed the DCs and SPs to conduct intensive awareness campaigns with active participation of students, teachers, NGOs, village heads (gaon burhas), village defence forces, panchayat members, ASHA workers, anganwadi workers etc., so that people are made aware to prevent heinous crimes taking place against children and women in all corners of the state. The chief minister also directed the SPs of all districts to personally monitor all such cases.

Even after the opposition political parties spitting fire over last Thursday’s incident of rape and murder of a minor girl at Batadrawa in Ngaon district, this decision came into force impending to take strict actions and make the law and order forces stringent.

Sighting to safeguard the safety of woman and children, earlier the states of Haryana and Rajasthan had issued order to imprison or give death sentence to the person committing the heinous crime. Seems like the next in the lines of welcoming this verdict will be the state of Assam.
