Chandigarh, April 30: All party leaders in Punjab gear up their momentum to woo voters. Total of 385 candidates has filed their nomination papers for 13 Loksabha constituencies of the state. Yesterday 188 candidates have filed their nomination papers. Lok Sabha Elections voting will be held in Punjab in a single phase. The date of polling in Punjab will be on May 19.
Giving this information at Chandigarh Chief Electoral Officer Dr S. Karuna Raju said that the scrutiny of nomination papers will take place today. Actor turned politician Sunny Deol files his nomination as the BJP candidate from the Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency. His brother and actor Bobby Deol also present.
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh accompanied Congress candidate Sher Singh Ghubaya for filing his nomination papers from Ferozepur yesterday.
In the latest development, AAP’s sitting MLA from Mansa, Nazar Singh Manshahia, joined the Congress last week. His shift to the Congress is expected to reduce the division of anti-SAD votes in Bathinda, where sitting MP and Union minister Harsimrat Kuar Badal is facing a multi-cornered fight as the candidate of the Akali-BJP alliance.
Chief Minister accompanied Manish Tewari for the filing of his nomination papers as the Congress candidate from Shri Anandpur Sahib.
“Election Commission of India (ECI) has made ‘Inclusive Elections’ a key priority for on-going parliamentary elections-2019 in the country. Efforts are also made in the state to ensure people with disabilities to vote.” Said, Dr S Karuna Raju, Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab. Talking about specially devised PwD (Persons with Disability) Mobile App, he said, it was also informed that the Punjab state election commission (SEC) has extended a pick-and-drop facility to persons with disabilities during the current Lok Sabha elections in the state, where such voters will be picked up from their places. Through this App, disabled people can register for pick up and drop facilities to polling booths.
