New Delhi, May 23: Reiterating the mutual desire of maintaining peace and tranquillity and improving relations at functional level at the border areas, a Border Personnel Meet between India and China marked saluting the National Flags by members of the delegation.

Followed by the exchange of greetings, the Indian delegation led by Maj Gen Arvind Kapoor from the Fire and Fury Corps and the Chinese delegation led by Senior Colonel Gan Wei Han, interacted in a free, congenial and cordial environment.

“The delegations parted amidst feeling of friendship and commitment towards enhancing the existing cordial relations and maintaining peace along with the border areas”, the statement reported.

BPM was held between the armies on May 21 at the place opposite Eastern Ladakh at DBO - TWT Meeting Point. “It was also held last month in the same area on the occasion of Baisakhi”, it added further.

Border Personnel Meeting points are locations along the disputed Sino-Indian border where the armies of both countries hold ceremonial and practical meetings to resolve border issues and improve relations.

While border meetings have been held since the 1990s, the first formal Border Personnel Meeting point was established in 2013. There are five meeting points, two in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, one in Sikkim, and two in Arunachal Pradesh.
