Voter’s step out till 11 am: 7 states slate impressive voting turnout with 24.2%

New Delhi, May 6: With India entering the fifth phase of elections, the polling fever has escalated as people step out to vote wisely. As per the Election Commission data, 24.2% voter turnout has been recorded till 10 am. 7 states, 51 constituencies will decide the fate of India as the battle for election and reigning the thrown to become the next political power intensifies with each phase coming along. The spectrum of politics has widened as many popular faces from different fields are entering politics with full-fledged campaigning.


 

Voter’s turnout in states as follows:

Bihar: 20.74%

J&K: 6.09%

Madhya Pradesh (MP): 25.68%

Rajasthan: 29.32%

Uttar Pradesh (UP): 22.46%

West Bengal (WB): 33.16%

Jharkhand: 29.49%

Voting is taking place in 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 12 in Rajasthan,7 seats each in West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, five in Bihar and four in Jharkhand. In Jammu and Kashmir, polling is taking place in Ladakh constituency and Pulwama and Shopian districts of Anantnag seat.

The Election Commission has set up 94,000 polling booths and made elaborate security arrangements. In the fifth and smallest phase, a total of 8.75 crore voters will decide the fate of 674 candidates.

 

Counting of votes will take place on May 23, after all, seven phases of voting are completed.
