Posing for security, resident doctors in New Delhi call for strike abide attendants assault operating doctor

New Delhi, July 8: Following an on-duty alleged assault on the doctor in emergency ward by patient's relative on July 7, the resident doctors at Maulana Azad Medical College, LNJP Hospital, GB Pant & Guru Nanak Eye Centre in the national capital have called a strike, posing for their security and safety.

 
This is the third incident of its same kind since the last month. The doctors on strike have however cleared that only emergency services will be operational. “As long as this happens we won't do any work. Only emergency services and nothing else will be operational”, said Dr Abhishek Bhatia.
 
Explaining the actual situation posing the insecure community, Dr Bhatia said, “A doctor was thrashed and injured here last night. Patient wasn't in a good condition. Despite of explaining everything, 10-15 people came and thrashed the doctor”.
 
Doctors in West Bengal had also gone on strike last month after a mob attacked two interns following the death of a patient at NRS Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The doctors called off their strike a week later, following talks with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
