Biarritz, August 26: Reiterating India’s stand on the repeated mediation offered by the United States President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Narendra Modi clearly asserted that the matter is bilateral in nature and there is no scope for third party mediation. Donald Trump after Imran Khan’s various attempts to seek support had offered for mediation on the "explosive Kashmir issue". Prime Minister Narendra Modi however issued a crystal-clear clarity by saying that India and Pakistan can sort the issue out between themselves.

Trump conceding to the fact that Kashmir is a bilateral issue is a big win for India as Pakistan has been trying to get global support after the government revoked special status for Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking to the media, Prime Minister said, “All issues between India and Pakistan are bilateral in nature, that is why we don't bother any other country regarding them," PM Modi also enlightened Prez Trump with the situation in Kashmir which is under control.

Highlighting India’s perspective, PM Modi elaborated “Kashmir is a bilateral issue, India and Pakistan will together hold a dialogue and resolve this issue. We do not want to trouble any country as Kashmir is a bilateral issue.”

Reiterating Modi's words, Donald Trump said, “We spoke last night about Kashmir, Prime Minister really feels he has it under control. They will speak with Pakistan and I'm sure that they will be able to do something that will be very good.”

PM Modi said, “US-India will continue to work together in every field. Whenever we got an opportunity, we (Modi and Trump) have met. 700 million voters gave their verdict. He telephoned to congratulate me. Both US and India are democratic nations that will work together. In many areas, we welcome the suggestions given by US. There is a lot of investment by Indians in US. The respect Indian community has been given in US, we are grateful for that," said PM Modi.

Donald Trump earlier had offered mediation on the Kashmir issue when Imran Khan visited the United States. Bewildered by India's historic step of abrogation of Article 370, Pakistan dragged United States in a matter which has been internal to India. However, India denied the mediation offer claiming that the issue has been bilateral in nature. Despite India asserting Kashmir as bilateral, Trump had time and again proposed to intervene in the issue after repeated appeal by Pakistan.

In his telephonic conversation with Trump, Modi highlighted the importance of creating an environment free from terror and violence and eschewing cross-border terrorism without exception. Taking this into consideration, US President Donald Trump in a telephonic conversation urged Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan to "moderate rhetoric" with India over the situation in Jammu and Kashmir in an effort to reduce tensions.
