Delhi police avert major terror plot, arrests 5 terrorists

New Delhi, December 07: Amid ongoing farmers protest in the nation's capital, the Special Cell of Delhi Police on Monday averted a major terror plot, and arrested 5 terrorists from them in Shakarpur area of east Delhi.

They have alleged linkages with terror groups have been apprehended following an exchange of fire in the Shakarpur area of east Delhi. According to the police, three terrorists are from Kashmir and the remaining two are from Punjab. The three terrorists have been identified as Shabbir Ahmed, Ayub Pathan, and Riyaz rather.
 
 
 
 
Police have also recovered weapons and other incriminating materials from them. Besides, police have also seized rugs from the possession.
 
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Special Cell Pramod Kushwaha said that weapons and other incriminating materials have been recovered from their possession. "Five persons apprehended following an exchange of fire in the Shakarpur area of Delhi. Two of them are from Punjab, three are from Kashmir. Weapons and other incriminating materials recovered," he said.
 
According to the police, some of them are suspected to have links with terror groups but this is being verified. Top officials of Delhi Police said the group was backed by Pakistan's intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) for narco-terrorism.
 
This comes nearly 3 weeks after Delhi police's special cell foiled a major terror attack in Delhi and arrested two suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists from Southeast Delhi's Sarai kale khan area. They have been identified as Abdul Latif Mir and Mohammad Ashraf, both residents of Jammu and Kashmir. The officials had also recovered 2 semi-automatic pistols and 10 live cartridges from their possession.
 
Earlier in August, an ISIS operative, Abu Yusuf Khan was arrested by Delhi Police after a brief exchange of fire in the capital’s Dhaula Kuan area. The ISIS terrorist had intended to attempt the attack around August 15, Independence Day.
