Mumbai, June 01: Following every B-Town celebrity have come forward to assist in the fight against COVID-19, superstar Ajay Devgn on Monday handed over oxygen cylinders and two portable ventilators to a new 200-bed make-shift health center in Dharavi, Mumbai. The contribution has been made through his production house, Ajay Devgn Films Foundation (ADFF).
Assistant municipal commissioner of G-North said Kiran Dighavkar said, "We told him we needed oxygen cylinders for all 200 beds and two portable ventilators. He readily agreed to pay for them."
Dighavkar also added that there are toilets and separate cubicles for each patient. They have an institutional quarantine center at Maharashtra Nature Park across the road. They also have an isolation center at Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex nearby. With this hospital, they will now have an end-to-end solution for Dharavi.
The congested locality, often described as Asia’s largest slum, has proven to be a challenge for authorities working to contain the spread of the coronavirus. The slum is one of the most affected areas in the city. As per reports, the 200-bed facility hospital in Dharavi was constructed in just 15 days. It has four doctors, 12 nurses, and 20 ward attendants working currently. The facility will only be used for Covid-19 patients, except those that are very critical.
The actor has also donated 700 ration kits to families in the area, which is the city’s COVID-19 hotspot, the actor confirmed in a tweet last week. “Dharavi is at the epicenter of the Covid19 outbreak. Many citizens supported by MCGM are working tirelessly on the ground through NGOs to provide the needy with ration & hygiene kits. We at ADFF are helping 700 families. I urge you to also donate.”
Ajay Devgn also donated Rs 51 lakh to Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) to help Hindi film industry’s daily wage workers and technicians, who have been affected by the nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak.
