#CycloneNisarga: PM Modi Reviews Situation; Urges People to Take Precautions, Safety Measures

New Delhi, June 03: As the Cyclone Nisarga heads towards West coast at Maharashtra and Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took stock of the cyclone conditions and urged people to take all possible precautionary and safety measures.

Cyclone Nisarga is headed towards the West coast at Maharashtra and Gujarat, is likely to intensify into a cyclone in the next 12 hours and is expected to make landfall close to Mumbai on Wednesday.
 
 
"Depression over the east-central Arabian sea intensified into Deep Depression. To intensify further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm and cross Maharashtra coast during June 3 afternoon. Cyclone alert for north Maharashtra south Gujarat coasts," IMD said.
 
 
The IMD in its latest bulletin predicted that the severe cyclonic storm will make landfall with a sustained wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting up to 120 kmph. The deep depression had initially developed over the East-central Arabian Sea and moved northwards with a speed of 11 kmph. The weather agency forecasted light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Konkan & Goa during the next 24 hours.
 
The IMD scientists said that Nisarga can flood the low-lying areas, especially in Mumbai and its adjoining areas, and cause noticeable structural damages in the city. The Maharashtra government has sounded red alert Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad district, while flash flood warning has been issued in Ratnagiri, Thane, Palghar, Mumbai and Nashik.
 
The NDRF teams are deployed in Mumbai, Raigad, Palghar. Thane, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Navi Mumbai. The NDRF team inspected the coastal areas too. As many as 14 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in the coastal region. Five more teams will be airlifted from other states and reach here soon, a statement by NDRF said.
 
Meanwhile, Gujarat will have a total of 17 NDRF teams, including two on standby. Over 20,000 People To Be Evacuated In Gujarat from 47 villages located close to the state coastline.
