Indian Army rushes in to conduct rescue operations in Uttarakhand

Dharchula, Aug 1: Amid the heavy rainfalls here, the Indian Army troops of the Indian Army conducted rescue operations on Saturday following heavy rains in the region, informed the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI), IHQ of MoD (Army).

 

 

The troops evacuated a large number of villagers in Dharchula. The locals were provided with logistics and medical aid. "Troops of Indian Army conducted Rescue Operations for the evacuation of villagers in Dharchula, Uttarakhand. A large number of villagers were evacuated. Logistics and medical aid being extended to the locals," said ADG PI, Indian Army in a tweet.

 

Uttarakhand has witnessed several landslides following heavy rainfall in the state for a few days. The district administration has also issued red alerts after rivers were flowing above their danger marks due to excessive rainfall.

 

Earlier, on Friday, the troops also carried out rescue operations in Pithoragarh district after heavy rains caused havoc in the area. An army column was deployed to Munsiyari and Dharchula areas to assist the local administration after the region witnessed flash floods and cloudbursts on Tuesday (28 July) and Wednesday (29 July), leaving several villages cut off.

 

It was also reported that there was damage to public property in several villages of the district. On Friday, Munsyari and Dharchula had received 24 mm and 179 mm rainfall, respectively resulting in blockage of many internal roads in Lumti, Jarajibli, Mori, Galati, Bangapani, Baram, Chhori Bagar, Banabagar, and Galati villages. Due to this, a dozen villages got disconnected from district headquarters after an important bridge connecting Munsiyari with Jauljabi was washed away. The road was also used by villages along the China border.
