New Delhi, Jan 7: In view of the impending assembly elections in the state, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has named party observers for the Assam and other state assembly elections.

According to the Congress party official tweet, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik and senior leader Shakeel Ahmad Khan have been appointed as Congress observers to oversee the electioneering in the State of Assam which is most likely to have assembly elections in April-May this year.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is named observer for Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Union Territory of Pondicherry. Former Goa Chief Minister Luizinho Falerio and Kaarnataka’s former deputy chief minister G Parameswara will be assisting Gahlot in these assembly elections.

For the most sensational West Bengal Assembly elections the Congress party has nominated Senior Congress leader B K Hariprasad and Alamgir Khan along with Punjab Minister Vijay Inder Singla as election observers.

In case of Assam the strength of the Congress party was reduced to 20 from 24 in the state assembly and its leader Debabrata Saikia, MLA from Nazira Constituency will no longer enjoy the status of the leader of the opposition in the 126-member House henceforth.

Assembly elections are due in Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and union Territory of Pondicherry. The heat is already visible in West Bengal electioneering as of now with the frequent visits of senior BJP leaders and Union Ministers. The overall atmosphere is heating up in West Bengal.

Similarly, the state of Assam is ruled by the BJP-led coalition. As such it may face the anti-incumbency factor in the coming elections. The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has announced that it will support only a regional party which will give priority to regional interests only. Moreover the issues like CAA and NRC are likely to dent in the BJP vote share.

However, that does not mean that the Congress will have better prospects. People of Assam have already rejected the Congress party for its partisan politics always favoring the Muslim vote bank.

The senior observers of the Congress party will oversee the election campaign, and set up party coordination and manage electioneering.
