Jammu and Kashmir : 32.31 lakh residents receive domicile certification

Jammu, Mar 18: According to the recent information that the govt of Jammu and Kashmir has provided, a total of 35,44,938 applications for issuing Domicile Certificate have been received until Dec 31, 2020. Out of these many applications, a total of 32,31,353 applicants have been issued Domicile Certificates, whereas a total of 2,15,438 applications have been rejected as on Dec 31, 2020.

Union Minister of State for Home, G Kishan Reddy has also shared in the lower house of the parliament that based on the information that the govt of Jammu and Kashmir has provided, a total of 32,31,353 applicants have been issued domicile certificates. The Rule 5 of the Jammu and Kashmir Grant of Domicile Certificate (Procedure) Rules, 2020 mandates certain documents to be annexed with the application. The applications which lacked the prescribed documents have been rejected.

Domicile Certificates are issued by the Tehsildar concerned where the applicant is residing. The J&K citizens are first required to register with their full particulars, and after registration, citizens can login into the web site and apply for Domicile Certificate. The citizens must ensure that they have selected proper Tehsil at the time of registration, however, updation of Tehsil of applicant can also be done easily after successful login by the applicant.
 
The MoS has also stated that as on Dec 31, 2020, a total of 31,08,682 Domicile Certificates have been issued to the dependents and holders of erstwhile Permanent Resident Certificates in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
