The Light Bullet Proof Vehicles weigh 6 tonnes each and have the ability to bear any type of bullet and grenade attacks. They will prove instrumental in countering terrorist attacks in sensitive regions. They can carry six Garud commandos or Quick Reaction Team members. The induction of LBVPs has come ahead of the proposed review of the security challenges by top commanders of the Air Force.

As reported earlier, the Indian Air Force’s top commanders will hold a bi-annual strategic meet in the national capital later this week for a three-day conference. The meet will focus on strategies to scale up its capabilities to have an edge over its adversaries, the defence ministry had said on Monday.

The vehicle was built in such a way that its engine remains hidden from the front and rear side and cannot be targeted easily. It has been provided protection by equipping with 6 mm thick armored protection and a 40 mm windshield, which can withstand AK-47 and sniper rifle bullets, the officials said to a private media. Such developments became necessary after the Pathankot attack in 2016.
