The group comprises External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval, and a number of other senior officials who will be monitoring the ground situation in Afghanistan with a focus on India’s immediate priorities. In addition, it is also being reported that officials from related ministries will be a part of it.

Reports suggest that the group has been meeting regularly over the last few days and discussed strategies about the safe return of stranded Indians, immigration of Afghans (especially minorities) to India. In addition, it also discussed issues related to the ground situation in Afghanistan and international reactions, including the resolution, passed earlier on Tuesday by the UN Security Council.

Yesterday, UNSC under the Indian presidency adopted a 7 strong point resolution on Afghanistan, proposed by France and the US, UK. The resolution on Afghanistan demands that the Afghan territory 'not be used to threaten or attack any country or to shelter or train terrorists. The resolution called for the Taliban to facilitate safe passage for people wanting to leave Afghanistan, allow humanitarians to access the country, and uphold human rights, including for women and children.

India's high command took this step after the United States completed its withdrawal from the war-torn country leaving behind the collapsing country.
