Srinagar, September 27: The security force has gunned down two Two Lashkar-e-Taiba militants who were involved in killing a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party
Waseem Bari, and his family members in July last year.
Terrorists identified as Azad Ahmad Shah and Abid Rashid Dar were shot dead by security forces in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday. According to the police, they were affiliated with the proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit.
While giving the information about the operation, Police said a cordon and search operation was started on Saturday evening after security forces received information about the presence of the militants in the Watnira area of Bandipora. The state police, army, and Central Reserve Police Force conducted a joint operation after they found out where the militants were hiding.
“Due restraint was exercised to avoid collateral damage. A surrender appeal was made to the terrorists. However, they brought down heavy fire on the security forces, forcing them to retaliate,” said Lt Col Emron Musavi, public relations officer, Defence, Srinagar. The two militants were killed. “Their bodies were retrieved from the site of the encounter,” a police spokesman said.
Police said that both terrorists, along with two other terrorists Usman and Sajad were involved in the killing of BJP leader Waseem Bari and his brother and father. Usman and Sajad were killed in an encounter in 2020. It should be noted, last year
, BJP leader Wasim Bari, his father Bashir Ahmed, and brother Umar Bari were killed by the terrorists who fired from a short-range with a pistol.
As per police records, both the terrorists were involved in planning and executing terror attacks on security establishments and civilian killings. Moreover, terrorist Abid Rashid Dar was instrumental in recruiting the "gullible youth into terror ranks of proscribed terror outfit LeT in north Kashmir," said the police.
