HC grants bail to six accused in Dilbar Negi's murder case relating to North East Delhi riots

New Delhi, Jan 19: In a very shocking development, the Delhi High Court granted bail to six prime accused in Dilbar Negi's murder case related to the Delhi Riots of February 2020.

Justice Subramonium Prasad granted bail to Mohd Tahir, Shahrukh, Mohd Faizal, Mohd Shoaib, Rashid and Parvez. Advocate Amit Mahajan, appearing for the Delhi Police had vehemently opposed the grant of bail.
 
According to the police, the accused persons pelted stones and set several shops on fire near Shiv Vihar Tiraha on February 24, 2020. Two days later, the mutilated dead body of Negi was found from the shop. Negi’s hands and feet were chopped off by the mob of rioters.
 
 
An FIR was registered by the Police under The FIR was registered under Section 147 (Punishment for rioting), 148 (Rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (Unlawful assembly), 302 (Murder), 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence), 436 (Mischief by fire) and 427 (Mischief causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused at Gokulpuri Police Station.
 
During the earlier hearings on the bail pleas, the prosecution had opposed the petitions saying that while the riots started in the morning and continued till late in the night, it cannot be said that the accused were part of the riotous mob in the afternoon and not during the night.
