New Delhi, Jan 21: Ahead of the Punjab assembly elections, the ongoing Congress-AAP face-off has now taken a drastic turn, as CM Charanjit Singh Channi is going to file a defamation case against Arvind Kejriwal after the latter called him "dishonest".

On Thursday, Kejriwal took to Twitter to target Channi's common man image, saying "Channi aam aadmi nahi, baiman aadmi hai (Channi is not a common man, he is a dishonest man)." Kejriwal passes this comment after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) recovered ₹8 crores from Channi's nephew Bhupinder Singh Bhupinder during the raids.

While talking with the media reporters, Channi said "I will file a defamation case against Kejriwal and have requested my party to give permission to do so. I am compelled to do this…he is dubbing me as dishonest and he has put that on his Twitter handle." Channi has also slammed Kejriwal saying that the AAP supremo has a habit of levelling allegations and tendering an apology later.

He said, "I want to say one thing. There is a limit to everything. There is decency in politics. You should not cross a certain line. He has crossed the line several times before. And he has apologised on many occasions. He has tried to level false allegations against (Nitin) Gadkari Sahab. First, he levels big allegations and then, escapes by apologising. It is on record that you apologised to Gadkari, (Arun) Jaitley and Bikram Majithia."
