Kalaburagi district, November 17: In a shocking development, a former JD(S) leader who was set to join Bharatiya Janta Party was allegedly killed by unknown people on Wednesday (November 17) in Karnataka's Kalaburagi district. The incident came to light after police recover his body from behind his shop in Karnataka's Kalaburagi.
Mallikarjun Muthyal is the name of the deceased person. As per the police, he was allegedly strangled to death and his private parts were crushed with a stone, the police said. This incident took place a day after Mallikarjun attended an event in which Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai was also present.
Reportedly, Mallikarjun's son alerted the police after their father went missing on Wednesday Night. Following this, when the Police visited his shop, they recovered Mallikarjun's body in a pool of blood behind his shop. Cops added that his private parts were mutilated and a rope was used to strangle him. The culprit also used a knife to kill and mutilate his private parts, police sources informed.
Meanwhile, the police registered a case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and started the investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
Sharing the details of the incident, Kalaburagi Superintendent of Police Isha Pant said, “We are working on this case. We are hopeful to find out who has committed the crime. We are looking at certain clues we have. Prima facie it doesn’t appear to be a political murder but we are investigating the case from all angles."
