New Delhi, April 5: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has written to the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) over the inclusion of a chapter authored by social rights activist Harsh Mander. It should be noted that he is currently under probe by the Enforcement Directorate on allegations of money laundering while running children's homes.

Accused of fraud, Harsh Mander's story included in textbook; NCPCR seeks reply from NCERT

The ED in September conducted raids at the premises linked to Mander, a retired IAS officer. In a letter to the NCERT, the NCPCR chief Priyank Kanoongo, said the story titled 'Weathering the Storm in Ersama' authored by Mander included in the English textbook 'Moments' for Class IX, was examined following a complaint, and it was found that it negated provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.

"The narrative of the story is built in a way to suggest that the rescue and welfare work are only carried out by the non-government organizations and undermines the country's mechanism including disaster management agencies and other authorities," said Kanoongo. The NCPCR body requested appropriate action in the matter and apprise the commission within seven days.

The complaint had raised questions over the inclusion of the story by a person who is leftist activists and accused of money laundering while running children's homes in the country. His name also revolves around the Delhi riots.

He has been also involved in provoking Muslims against Hindus during the anti-CAA riots that resulted in the Delhi riots in the national capital in February 2021. Several people were killed and injured in the riots.

This development came to light after several netizens opposed the story of the accused who is engaged in a money laundering case.
The users have also hit out at the government for letting the accused write stories for students.
Apart from this, the netizens have come up with several such incidents where the Indian textbooks wrongfully narrate the history of the nation.
This has definitely raised questions about the education system of India that needs a revamp. This will also help to change "the wrong" made by the previous governments.
