While Sri Lanka is going through a ever worsening economic and energy crisis, and President Rajapaksa"s recent promise of appointing the new PM sooner, news now come from Colombo that Former Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be taking the Prime Minister"s oath tomorrow (May 13) itself.

Colombo, May 12: While Sri Lanka is going through a ever worsening economic and energy crisis, and President Rajapaksa's recent promise of appointing the new PM sooner, news now come from Colombo that Former Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be taking the Prime Minister's oath tomorrow (May 13) itself.

According to the reports coming in from Sri Lankan media, Leader of Sri Lanka's United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe has been selected to be appointed as the new Prime Minister on May 13. The recent development has taken place merely few hours after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa made an announcement that he will soon appoint the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and later had met with the UNP leader.
 
 
 
 
 
In a row of major events in Sri Lankan politics, Former Sri Lanka Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had announced his resignation from the position, on May 9. The resignation came days after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa requested Mahinda to step down from the position in a special meeting, on May 6. Whereas, today (May 12) among several announcements made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, he also mentioned that a person who has the trust of the majority of parliamentarians and the people will be selected as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and appointed within a week.
 
 
According to the reports of Sri Lankan media, a large number of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim parliamentarians have stood ahead in support of Ranil Wickremesinghe to become the new Prime Minister. President Rajapaksa also seemed to have had requested leaders of several political parties to accept the post of Prime Minister, which they had turned down due to the challenging economic situation in the country. Ranil Wickremesinghe has been previously appointed as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka for 5 terms.
