Mumbai, June 1: Actor Akshay Kumar, ahead of release of his movie ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, claimed that history textbooks do not mention Prithviraj Chauhan a lot and that there are only 2 lines on him in the books.

But on the other hand, he says, invaders who invaded India are mentioned on a bigger scale. “I wanted to know more about Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan. I heard so many stories from him (Director Chandraprakash Dwivedi), but unfortunately, our history textbooks have only 2 or 3 lines about him. Everything else is there in the books, there are a lot of details about invaders, but there’s hardly any mention of our culture and our Maharajas,” Kumar lamented during his interview.

When asked why indigenous kings have not gotten their due in history books, Kumar said, “Nobody is there to write about it in our history books. I would like to appeal to the Education Minister to look into this matter and see if we can balance it. We should know about the Mughals, but we must also know about our kings as well; they were great too.”

To this, Mohammed Zubair, co-founder of AltNews, said in a tweet, "Hello @akshaykumar, Not sure if you are talking about India or your home country Canada. In Indian schools they've been teaching about all Prominent Indian Kings." In the tweet, he attached an image of a history textbook page that mentioned the names of many Indian kings, but most names on the page were of Mughal invaders.

As a reply to Zubair's tweet, a Twitter user stated, "The pic he posted has 90% M rulers, and thats intentionally. Zubair just wants to show here that most prominent rulers of Delhi have been Mughals. Typical Indian M imagining Mughals as his forefathers."

Director Chandraprakash Dwivedi said about the film that it is not just about Hindu nationalism but about cultural nationalism too, and there is nothing wrong in reviving Hindu or cultural nationalism.
