Thiruvananthpuram, June 03: Talking about the Citizenship Amendment Act, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that his government has a clear potion on CAA and they will not implement the act in the state.
He passed that remark while speaking at a function organised to mark the conclusion of his government's first anniversary celebrations. He said persons holding responsible positions have often said the law would be implemented.
Addressing the crowd, he said, "The state government has a clear position on this matter. There will be no change in it." Further criticising the CAA act, he added that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act was against the secularism of the country.
He added that no one here has the authority to determine citizenship on the basis of religion. Noting that the Constitution is supreme in deciding such matters, he said the state government has taken its stand on the issue based on Constitutional principles.
CM Pinarayi Vijayan said, “our country works on the principle of secularism as mentioned in the Constitution of India. Nowadays, attempts are being made to destroy secularism. A certain group of people is greatly concerned about this. In a recent incident, a group of people were determining citizenship on the basis of religion. Kerala government has taken a firm stand against this incident.”
He further stated that surveys are being undertaken in various regions of the country in order to instil communal animosity amongst people. “Several surveys are being conducted in different parts of the country to create communal tension among people. But here, a survey has been completed to identify the most impoverished families in our society. Further steps will be taken as part of this survey,” CM Pinarayi Vijayan said.
Last month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said in Siliguri in West Bengal that the law would be implemented once the COVID-19 pandemic has ended.
