Srinagar, Jan 31: In yet another significant development, the Jammu and Kashmir administration ordered the renaming of more than 50 public schools and other infrastructures after security personnel were martyred in the line of duty.
The move is part of the Lieutenant Governor administration’s decision to name public places after those who gave up their life in the "service of the nation."

In an order issued by the Secretary, GAD Piyush Singla read, "Sanction is accorded to the naming of 57 infrastructure and assets after martyrs and eminent personalities."
Previously, the government had renamed scores of educational establishments and roads after some eminent personalities and the security forces, who lost lives on the line of duty in the union territory.
The government also renamed one infrastructure in the name of Makhan Lal Bindroo, a pharmacist who was gunned down on October 5, 2021 by terrorists, when he was at his pharmacy in Iqbal park area of Srinagar. The government girls higher secondary school in Khanyar in Sringar has been named after Deputy superintendent of Police Mohmmad Ayoub Pandit. 57-year-old Pandit was stripped and beaten to death with rods outside Jamia Masjid on June 23, 2017.
Besides, the government had ordered necessary steps to be taken for amending the records for effecting the changes. According to the order, the School Education Department has been asked to take immediate necessary steps including amending records for effecting the changes.
Moreover, Divisional Commissioners, Jammu and Kashmir asked to personally monitor the naming of infrastructure assets in their respective divisions while the Deputy Commissioners shall ensure that appropriate events are held in connection with the naming of these infrastructures and assets.
