After completing the program's RDT&E phase and delivering the sixth and last test aircraft to the US Air Force last month, Boeing is shifting to low rate initial production of the MH-139A Grey Wolf. In 2024, the business aims to deliver the first low-rate production aircraft to the client.

"Delivering all of the RDT&E aircraft to the Air Force enables them to continue critical operational testing and allows Boeing to focus on building the first production aircraft." According to Azeem Khan, the program director for the MH "The Grey Wolf will help the Air Force improve its national security capabilities." This is a critical step in getting the aircraft into service."

To far, the Air Force has given Boeing a contract to produce the first 13 aircraft, with the first in final assembly. Boeing will eventually supply the Air Force with up to 80 MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters.

"With the delivery of the final test aircraft, we're entering an exciting production phase." The United States Air Force is gaining a speedier and more capable aircraft with the MH-139, ushering them into a new era of service for this task," stated Robert Beyer, MH-139 Senior Program Manager, Leonardo Helicopters US. "Leonardo is incredibly proud of this aircraft, and we look forward to the continued partnership with Boeing and the USAF as we deliver additional Grey Wolf helicopters."

The MH-139A aircraft will replace the UH-1N Huey and will be responsible for securing intercontinental ballistic missiles around the United States as well as carrying VIP and security personnel.
