Greensea IQ has achieved a major milestone by successfully showcasing their prototype Autonomous EOD Maritime Response Vehicle (AEMRV) to the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and the US Navy.
This cutting-edge technology, powered by OPENSEA Edge, has the ability to provide computing resources that enable advanced edge perception systems and autonomous behaviors within the EOD Workspace. This allows for human-on-the-loop autonomy and untethered command and control over the ROV platform.
The demonstration, which took place in the open ocean off the coast of San Diego in September, spanned several days and featured a fully integrated OPENSEA Edge-driven untethered ROV.
This was made possible by the collaboration between Greensea IQ and VideoRay MSS Defender, which was modified to include batteries and an acoustic modem. Throughout the demonstration, the system flawlessly carried out real-world tasks by autonomously scanning the environment for potential threats using acoustic communication.
This remarkable feat proves the immense potential of AI in the field of maritime response and highlights the groundbreaking advancements made by Greensea IQ.
During the recent demonstration, the focus was on showcasing the capabilities of Greensea IQ's EOD Workspace, a cutting-edge autonomy system designed for both Mine Countermeasure (MCM) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operations.
Along with this, their revolutionary Greensea IQ software platform, which allows for seamless integration with a variety of robots, was also on display. This was all made possible through their OPENSEA Edge system, a versatile and adaptable hardware platform.
According to Greensea IQ CEO Ben Kinnaman, the use of autonomous technology is crucial in enhancing our presence in the ocean and ensuring the safety and effectiveness of our work. He stated, "The capabilities we have demonstrated to the US Navy and DIU truly showcase the immense potential of this technology. With our software, we can revolutionize the neutralization of subsea threats by utilizing ocean robots in a safe and scalable manner."
Greensea IQ has been working closely with the DIU since 2021 to develop a fully autonomous and untethered software platform for ROVs specifically designed for MCM and EOD operations.
The recent demonstration was the final step in showcasing the successful prototype that has been delivered to the US Navy for further evaluation. This marks a significant milestone in the continued advancement of autonomous technology in the field of underwater operations.
