Prayagraj, Mar 06: The Uttar Pradesh Police Monday gunned down a 24-year-old man allegedly involved in the killing of advocate Umesh Pal, who was a witness in the 2005 murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal, and his two gunners last month in Prayagraj.

The deceased, Vijay Chaudhary alias Usman, was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, said a police officer.
The police had earlier gunned down one man, identified as Arbaaz, and arrested another, identified as Sadakat Khan, in the murder case. Arbaz, who allegedly drove the SUV of the assailants, was killed in an encounter with the police in Prayagraj last week.

Prayagraj Additional Commissioner of Police Akash Kulhary said Chaudhary was actively involved in the murder of Umesh Pal and his gunners. He added that Chaudhary had shot the first bullet at Umesh Pal in the firing. Chaudhary was a native of Prayagraj and had criminal cases against him, said the police. According to police, they got a tip-off about Chaudhary and spotted him in the Kaundhiyara area. A police team rushed to the spot. On seeing the police team, he opened fire to escape. The police chased him and fired at him. In the firing, the assailant got injured and was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The police said in the cross-firing, police constable Narendra got injured. He was being treated in a hospital and his condition was said to be stable. The police claimed to have recovered a countrymade pistol from Chaudhary’s possession. Umesh Pal and his police security guards — Sandeep Nishad and Raghvendra Singh — were shot on February 24 outside his home in the Dhoomanganj area. While Pal died the same day, the security personnel died later during treatment.
