Mumbai, May 23: Maharashtra NCP president Jayant Patil was on Monday questioned for more than nine hours by the Enforcement Directorate in Mumbai, in connection with a money laundering case linked to alleged financial irregularities in the now-bankrupt financial services firm IL&FS.

However, Patil alleged he was not asked anything about the case."Not a single question was asked about the alleged Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) scam," said Jayant Patil, following his nine-hour questioning by the ED.
 
Patil told reporters he answered all queries raised by the ED official and thanked the probe agency for treating him well during the course of the investigation.He also said the party leaders are the soldiers of Sharad Pawar and have no option but to fight.
 
 
Patil reached the ED's office in south Mumbai at around 11.50 am in the presence of a large number of party supporters. He came out of the office at around 9:25 pm.Interestingly, minute details regarding the Rajaram Bapu Co-operative sugar factory owned by the Patil family since its inception were asked during questioning, highly placed sources with the NCP told India Today.
 
 
 
Sources also said Patil was questioned about the year during which the sugar factory was commissioned, the board of directors then and now, the sales turnover and the production capacity of the factory.
 
Questions related to the Rajaram Bapu Sahakari (Co-operative) Bank LTD, run by the board of directors close to the Patil family since 1981, were also asked.Details about the gross business and annual financial turnover were also taken into account by the ED officials.
 
As per sources, after every round of questioning, an official used to pose different sets of questions and sub-questions, based on the previous statements recorded.
 
Patil, 61, who represents the Islampur seat in Sangli district, was issued the first summons for appearance before the ED on May 12, but he had sought deferment for about 10 days citing some personal and official engagements.
He was subsequently asked to appear on May 22.
