In a major blow to Justin Trudeau who sought the support of its closest allies, including the United States, to isolate India on the” Hardeep Singh Nijjar” issue, as Canada’s attempts were rebuffed after its allies refused to take a stand against Modi Government fearing diplomatic backlash from New Delhi.

Canada PM Left alone

For unreserved, Trudeau, on Tuesday, made international headlines with his allegation in Parliament this week that India had a hand in the murder of Nijjar, who was gunned down last June in the parking lot of a gurdwara. Not only that Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly also expelled Indian diplomat Pavan Kumar Rai. Following this, India taking action against Canada, asked the Canadian Diplomat to leave the nation within 5 days.

As per the Washington Post, Canada has to push its closest allies, the members of the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing network — comprising the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia and New Zealand - to raise Nijjar's killing with India at the highest levels of government and issue a joint statement condemning the act as contravening international norms.

However, some of these allied nations, including the United States, declined to join Canada in jointly announcing the findings of the ongoing probe, underscoring the lengths the Biden administration has gone to avoid antagonizing India and court the Asian power as a strategic counterweight to China.

Canada’s allies have tried to balance their ties with India, which they see as a counterweight to ambitious China. The US, the UK, and Australia expressed concern about the allegations raised by Justin Trudeau but refrained from making any remarks before the investigation was complete.

"We remain in regular contact with our Canadian partners. It is critical that Canada’s investigation proceed and the perpetrators be brought to justice,” the White House said on Tuesday.

In London, a UK government spokesperson said," We are in close touch with our Canadian partners about these serious allegations.”

"It would be inappropriate to comment further during the ongoing investigation by the Canadian authorities,” the spokesperson said, adding that trade negotiations with India will "continue as before".
