Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi schooled US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, known for her anti-India stance on various issues, for commenting on the ongoing India-Canada diplomatic row.
This comes after, Ilhan Omar, raised concerns over the India-Canada diplomatic row and requested a briefing on whether there are "similar operations in the United States" in a social media post. In her social media post, Omar had emphasised the need for the United States to fully support Canada's investigation into India's alleged involvement in the Khalistani terrorist Nijjar's killing.
“The allegations that Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Niijar was assassinated by the Indian government are deeply concerning. The US must fully support the Canadian investigation. We are also requesting a briefing on whether there are similar operations in the United States,” Omar’s post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), read.
Retweeting Omar’s post, Chaturvedi, in a sharp response, wrote, "Sit down Madam Representative. Such being the case, as an Indian Parliamentarian, I urge MEA India to start an enquiry into how an elected representative in the USA is interfering in the peace of Jammu & Kashmir via Pakistan-funded PoK visit."
In 2022, Ilhan Omar visited Pakistan, met Shehbaz Sharif and Imran Khan and also visited Muzaffarbad on PoK. India called it ‘narrow-minded politics’ and condemned the visit. In a recent report, it has been revealed that Ilhan Omar's visit was sponsored by the Pakistani government, including her lodging and food.
Ilhan Omar reportedly visited Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in 2022. An annual House financial disclosure report revealed that her trip was funded by the Pakistani government. The disclosure showed the Pakistani government funded the visit from 18-24 April, which included lodging and food.
Recently, she also boycotted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech at the US Congress joint session in June. "Prime Minister Modi’s government has repressed religious minorities," she had said.
