During an IPL show on Jio Cinema former CSK cricketer Suresh Raina picked Ruturaj Gaikwad as one of the better options to succeed MS Dhoni as the Chennai Super Kings captain after the latter retired from the IPL. It seems like his wish came true but early as the CSK announced that Ruturaj Gaikwad has become the new captain of the team replacing MS Dhoni.

So, here are three reasons why Ruturaj Gaikwad is the right successor to take Dhoni’s CSK legacy forward-

1. Explosive batting

Though the 27-year-old did not take off well when he was picked in the 2019 auction, he impressed with his bat in 2021 where he won the Orange Cap for amassing 635 runs in 16 matches at an average of 45.35 and a strike rate of 136.26 with one hundred and four fifties. Similarly, in the 2023 season, he bagged 590 runs. Notably, both seasons were won by CSK. His composed and technical batting style saw him fix his place as one of the side's opening batter options.

2. Leadership qualities

To be a leader of a successful team like CSK and a successful captain like Dhoni, would be massive pressure for Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, whenever the situation demanded, he stepped forward for the yellow Brigade. Speaking about the stats, India has already witnessed his leadership qualities when he led the team in the Asian Games 2023 which was played in the T20 format. The team won historic gold in the prestigious event.

3. Future Indian captain

It is the perfect time for Gaikwad to become a captain of the IPL franchise. Since it is likely to be the last IPL of Dhoni, Ruturaj will be captaining the Chennai-based team with Dhoni by his side. If he does well, he could be the permanent captain of the CSK franchise for the next decade.
