Hindu students asked to pay Jizya, Maa Sita called a prostitute: Islamists at AMU assault Hindu students during Holi

Aligarh, Mar 23: In a shocking development, radical Islamists hurled abuses and attacked Hindu students during Holi celebrations at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). A video of the incident went viral on social media in which Hindu students are running to save themselves while Islamists run after them.

What Happened? 


Hindu students had sought permission to celebrate Holi as there was no ban on any festival on the AMU campus. However, they found themselves being targeted and assaulted by a group of Muslim students. They hurled abuses not only at Hindu students but also at Hindu gods and goddesses and demanded to pay jizya for celebrating Holi. It included referring to Maa Sita as a prostitute. “Today, let us teach a lesson to the children of prostitute Sita.”
 
Adit Pratap Singh, the student who had sought permission to hold a special Holi Milan, said he was confronted by some "radical elements" on Thursday night over his Holi celebration request. He said he was targeted because he was "exercising his democratic right to celebrate his festival."

“Ten students opposing the celebration of Holi have been booked in crime case number 124/2024 registered under section 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with armed weapons), 149 (unlawful assembly with common object), 153A (causing enmity between groups on basis of religion), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (insult to provoke) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code,” stated Ravindra Singh, the officiating in-charge at Civil Lines police station of Aligarh.


After the brawl on Thursday, BJP leaders came in support of students who were celebrating Holi and alleged that they were targeted on communal lines and even girl students were not spared by those opposing the celebrations.
