Communal tensions erupted in the Kondhwa area of Maharashtra's Pune city after a minor scuffle broke out between young children of two communities who were playing in one of the societies. The Sakal Hindu Samaj stated that a Hindu minor was attacked by members of a specific community, which led to the tensions.
Newsbharati exclusively talked to Sakal Hindu Samaj to know exactly what happened that led to communal tensions. As per the group, a Hindu minor was allegedly attacked by persons from a specific community. "It was a minor scuffle, but the Muslim minors who attacked the Hindu minor got the elders involved in the incident. Following this, the fight escalated among the elders of the two communities," the SHS said.
In the videos shared by the group, people walking with alleged weapons on the streets can be heard raising the slogans of 'Nara-e-Takbir Allahu Akhbar'. The Hindu groups, while talking to Newsbharati, further added that the Hindu people immediately went to the Kondhwa Police Station to file a police complaint, but later, the people from a specific community also followed them. The scuffle also broke out at the police station premises, where the Islamists are believed to have allegedly launched an attack on Hindu groups, as claimed by Hindu organization members.
The police then
resorted to a lathi charge and dispersed the crowd. Several Hindus are believed to have sustained injuries during the lathi charge. The police attempted to pacify both groups and push them back, but the enraged rioters, taking the law into their own hands, allegedly turned against the police team itself. Stones were hurled at police personnel and vehicles, forcing the authorities to deploy Riot Control Police (RCP) and SRPF units during the night to bring the situation under control.
A video of the violent clash and tension has been going viral on social media since Tuesday morning. The footage clearly shows hundreds of people gathering on the main road near Kondhwa Police Station around midnight and staging a sit-in protest in the middle of the road. The blockade completely
disrupted traffic in the area, creating chaos late into the night. The crowd was eventually dispersed after senior police officials adopted a strict approach.
Kondhwa Police have taken the violence and attack on police personnel seriously. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections for rioting, obstructing government work, and stone pelting. The accused are being identified through CCTV footage and viral videos. Police have already detained several prime suspects, while multiple teams are conducting raids to arrest other absconding accused.
Newsbharati tried to connect to the Kondhwa police over the issue. But the calls could not be placed. Further details in the case are awaited.
A similar incident was reported from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, last week, where several Islamists gathered on the streets and raised the slogans of 'Allah hu Akhbar.' The Islamists also raised the slogans of 'Sar Tan Se Juda'. A detailed report regarding the same can be read
