Devotees from India as well as overseas have been continuously visiting the shrine to offer prayers to Goddess Yamuna. On Thursday, May 21, the donation box placed inside the Yamunotri Dham temple premises was opened in the presence of members of the temple committee, Teerth Purohits (pilgrimage priests), officials from the revenue department, and police personnel. The money collected through donations was then counted. A temple committee official stated that the entire exercise was carried out with full transparency and tight security arrangements.

The temple committee noted that the rising number of pilgrims has infused the region with renewed energy and activity. Businesses along the pilgrimage route, including hotels, horse and mule services, shops, and local vendors, are witnessing a boost in trade and enthusiasm. The consistent arrival of devotees is proving beneficial for the local economy.

Temple committee spokesperson Purushottam Uniyal said that despite several logistical and management-related challenges at the shrine, devotees continue to arrive in large numbers. Meanwhile, Manmohan Uniyal from the priest community remarked that strengthening pilgrimage management systems and making facilities more convenient could further increase the temple committee’s revenue.

They also highlighted the importance of improving basic facilities for pilgrims, enhancing overall management, and exploring additional sources of income.

Pilgrims undertaking the Char Dham Yatra generally begin their journey at Yamunotri Dham, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, before moving on to Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Every year, the Yamunotri temple opens on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya and closes on Yama Dwitiya, two days after Diwali. Following the closure, the deity is shifted to her winter residence in the nearby village of Kharsali.
