On June 1, a Hindu woman from the Gujaini police station area in South Kanpur in
Uttar Pradesh lodged a complaint against an Islamist for concealing his religious identity, posing as a Hindu, and deceptively trapping her in a romantic relationship. The accused also forced her to convert and marry him, and later sold her in Delhi.
According to the
reports, the complainant, who was a first-year BA student at a college in Naubasta in 2021, met the accused, identified as 'Rehan', who introduced himself as a Hindu. He claimed that his name was 'Rishabh' and that he had secured a job. He made sure that the victim felt heard and safe over the months and then gradually developed a relationship with her.
The woman alleged that the man later took her to his residence in the Kulibazar area, where she discovered that he was not Hindu as he had claimed but was a Muslim who had concealed his real name and religion. When she objected, the accused and his family members confined her in their house for about a week, threatened her, and forcibly converted her before marrying her in September 2021.
After the marriage, the couple reportedly lived in a rented room in the Gadiyana locality of Chakeri. The complainant further stated that in November last year, the accused took her to Delhi under the pretext of a short trip and sold her to two individuals. She further added that she somehow managed to return to Gadiyana, where the accused caught her and sexually assaulted her. As per the exclusive report by Dainik Bhaskar, the woman was then given triple talaq and threatened with death if she disclosed the incidents.
Fearing for her safety and seeking justice, the woman somehow approached Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal with her complaint. The investigation has been assigned to DCP (South) Deependra Nath Chaudhary, who will examine the incidents and take further action based on the findings.
It is important to note that despite stringent laws, several incidents of love jihad and forced religious conversion continue to emerge from the state of
Uttar Pradesh. On May 27, a Hindu woman from Kerala was
sexually assaulted and exploited by an Islamist, identified as Farman, on the pretext of marriage, and was later forced to convert to Islam. Farman's brothers, Faizan and Sarfaraz, also helped the accused to trap the Hindu woman, after which the state police booked all three under the relevant sections of the law.
Before that, on May 26, Mohammad Farman, a resident of Deoband in
Uttar Pradesh, was
arrested after he assumed a false Hindu identity to deceive a Hindu woman from Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Farman reportedly introduced himself as a Hindu, "Aman Tomar" or "Aman Sharma," and lived in Dehradun's Chakrata area while working as a mason under this disguised identity. He used a fake Hindu profile on Instagram to establish contact with a Hindu woman from Chakrata, and later purportedly blackmailed her into converting her religion to Islam.
So far, in the given case, the Kanpur Police Commissioner has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) to investigate the matter. The DCP (South) stated that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
