A case of deception and intimidation has surfaced in Assam's Lakhimpur district, where a Muslim man concealed his identity and coerced a young Hindu woman into a relationship. The incident, believed to be a novel case of Love Jihad, came to light on Tuesday, June 2, after the accused, identified as Hasmat Ali, allegedly attempted to obtain a notarised affidavit to formalise his marriage with a woman from Joyhing Tea Estate in Lakhimpur.

During the process, his identity reportedly came under scrutiny, revealing inconsistencies in the personal details he had earlier provided. According to reports, Ali had introduced himself to the woman under different names, including Sumit Kumar and Surjya Kumar, over the course of their relationship. He is alleged to have maintained the deception while developing close ties with her.

The situation escalated when he approached legal formalities for marriage registration, during which his real identity was exposed. It also reportedly emerged that he had an earlier marriage to another woman, information that had not been disclosed to the victim.

Following the revelation, the accused is also alleged to have issued death threats to the woman and her family, further intensifying the seriousness of the complaint. Police have since registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. Authorities are examining all aspects of the allegations, including identity fraud, intimidation, and possible violations of law linked to the case.

The state of Assam is appearing in the news for all such crimes. Recently, on June 1, Rose Ali, also known as Ashif Khan, was killed in a police encounter in Mukalmua, Nalbari district, Assam. Ali was the prime accused in the brutal killing of 19-year-old Madhurjya Barman and the serious assault of 18-year-old Mridumudra Deka. The two cousins were attacked while riding a scooty near Gangapur in Mukalmua after Deka had allegedly rejected Ali’s marriage proposal. Another youth, Ashik Ali, was also reportedly involved in the attack.

Earlier to that, Tahir Ali, a resident of Dhubri district of Assam, posted a morphed, derogatory image of Maa Durga, hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindu community. One of the social media users flagged the issue and asked the Assam Police to look into the matter.

In the morphed image posted by Ali, Maa Durga has been blatantly shown as clothless below the waist, while a couple of hands can be seen inappropriately touching the Hindu deity. The host user identified as @CountryGulshan on X also posted the image of Ali, provoking the netizens to comment on the issue.
