On Friday, June 5, the Wipro company in Pune
issued its first statement on allegations of a religious harassment case that came to light in Pune's Hinjewadi. The company claimed that it maintains a "zero-tolerance approach" towards misconduct and has been fully cooperating with Pune Police.
"At Wipro, employee welfare, dignity, and respect are paramount. We maintain a zero-tolerance approach towards any form of misconduct, discrimination, harassment, or actions that compromise an individual's fundamental rights and freedoms," the company
said.
"We have been fully cooperating with the authorities in this matter and have provided all relevant documents and information to the Pune Police. As the matter is currently under investigation, we cannot comment on the specifics of the case," it added.
This is after, on June 3, a former employee of Wipro Technologies stated that she was subjected to religious harassment, workplace discrimination, and coercion, leading to her resignation. The matter was reportedly taken up with the Hinjawadi Police, and a legal notice was served on the company.
The allegations were brought to public attention during a press conference organised by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti in Pune. The former employee alleged that while working at Wipro’s Hinjawadi office, a colleague repeatedly urged her to convert to Islam and pursue a relationship with a Muslim man.
According to her statement, the colleague intruded into her personal life and suggested that abandoning her Hindu faith would result in a better lifestyle and greater opportunities abroad. The complainant said she opposed these suggestions and eventually limited all interactions with the colleague to official work-related communication.
According to the complaint, Shahina Rafik initially
interacted with the victim on professional matters as part of a Dubai-based project. However, the victim alleges that Shahina gradually began contacting her on her personal phone and engaging in conversations unrelated to work. The complainant claims that Shahina asked intrusive questions about her personal life and made repeated suggestions that she should establish relationships with Muslim men.
According to the complaint, Shahina told her, “Those Sheikh people have many contacts. If you accept the Muslim religion, I will get you married to one of them. You will remain very happy and earn a lot.” The victim also alleges that she was encouraged to move to Dubai and was told that converting to Islam would improve her lifestyle and career prospects. She further claims that despite making it clear that she was uncomfortable with such conversations, the conduct continued for an extended period.
Earlier, it was reported how Muslim women have been
increasingly at the centre of what investigators describe as organized conversion networks. A detailed report on this can be read

A similar incident was exposed in the Nashik district of Maharashtra. In early 2026, multiple employees at the TCS Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) campus in Nashik, Maharashtra, filed FIRs alleging sustained sexual harassment and religious coercion by several team leaders. The allegations reportedly span from 2022 to 2026, pointing to prolonged misconduct within the workplace.
Notably, these recent incidents have brought workplace safety issues and allegations of authority misuse within private sector organisations into sharper focus.
