J&K: Mukhtar Gujar, Farman Khan, accused in POCSO cases, escape from Central Jail; lookout notices issued
Accused, Gujjar, is from Sanglan Chittergul in Anantnag district, and Farman Khan is from Sadonpara Rajistan of Ganderbal district. Both are under trial in two different POCSO cases.

On Monday, August 24, the Jammu and Kashmir police set up a preliminary enquiry in the case where two jail inmates identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Gujjar and Farman Khan, charged under POCSO, escaped from the Central Jail in Srinagar on the morning of August 23.
Police sources said the escaped accused, Gujjar, is a resident of Sanglan Chittergul in Anantnag district, and Farman Khan is a resident of Sadonpara Rajistan of Ganderbal district.
Police said it has intensified efforts to locate the accused and has appealed to the general public to share any information regarding their whereabouts. However, the officials have not yet commented on the circumstances under which the two undertrials escaped from the high-security prison in Srinagar.
Located in Srinagar’s Rainawari, the central jail, which houses more than 500 inmates, is protected with tight security cover. Police have announced awards for those who disclose information about the two escapees.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is also assisting the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the matter. This is a day after the Police issued a lookout notice for them who escaped from a high-security jail in the Valley. Police have also launched a search operation to trace and apprehend them.

Both the accused are under trial in two different cases. Gujjar is wanted in FIR No. 20/2026, registered at Police Station Soura in Srinagar district, under Sections 137(2) and 65(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3/4 of the POCSO Act.

Khan is wanted in FIR No. 19/2026, registered at Police Station Lar in Ganderbal, under Sections 137(2) and 87 of the BNS and Sections 3/4 of the POCSO Act, police said.
