Mumbai, October 27: The much awaited AC local will run on tracks of Mumbai from January 1 said Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday. The suburban railway network is considered as Mumbai’s lifeline, heavily crowded, carries lakhs of commuters daily. The plan of introducing AC locals was on papers since a decade.

Firstly the AC rake will be introduced on Western railways (WR) with seven services daily.

Fares of the cool journey will be a bit heavy on pockets as a single ticket is likely to cost the same as a first class ticket, but season passes are expected to be priced around 1.5 times more than their first class equivalents.

Schedule to run the first service was on this month but due to operational issues it has been delayed, but the issues are solved said the railways officials. The railways has acquired nine more electrical multiple unit (EMU) AC rakes for Mumbai so that such services can be operated both on the Western railway (WR) and Central railway (CR) lines, They added.
