At least 15 killed, 100 injured in Thermal Power plant blast in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, November 1: As per latest reports, an ash-pipe at the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Unchahar plant in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh exploded today leaving 15 killed and over 100 injured. All those injured in the mishap have been rushed to nearby hospitals.

 

According to Local officials, high pressure led to the blast in the boiler unit no 6 of the 500 MW NTPC Thermal Power Plant.

“An unfortunate accident in the boiler of 500MW under trial unit of NTPC, Unchahar occurred this afternoon. Rescue operations are underway in close coordination with District Administration. Injured persons are being shifted to the nearby hospitals“, Ministry of Power said.

“NTPC's senior management is rushing to the site to coordinate the efforts”, statement added.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the explosion. CM Yogi has directed Principal Secretary Home Department to ensure all steps for rescue and relief.

NTPC operates a 1550 Mega Watt power plant of Uttar Pradesh, which is named after Feroze Gandhi, husband of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
